MOYA HEALTH AND THERAPY CENTRE
The Moya Centre provides basic medical and health care for the residents and staff of Camphill Village. There is a full-time nurse on call. Doctor's clinics are held on a regular basis, with full medical examinations twice yearly for Villagers. Basic health care includes dental and foot care. Also provided are epilepsy clinics. |
THERAPY
The Centre is equipped to provide a range of therapies:
• Oil baths
• Movement Therapy
• Painting/Art Therapy
• Music Therapy
• Counselling
Some of these therapies are considered as basic health care for certain residents, especially the elderly and others with chronic conditions.
Many young people who have experienced abuse and trauma have greatly benefited from the various therapies. These therapies have assisted in the process of healing which all our young residents sorely need.
BRIEF HISTORY
The Moya Centre concept has been alive for many years in Camphill Village. Medical and health care has always needed a
specialised Centre, especially in a rural community. Moya's predecessor was accommodated in one of the houses (Grover House),
which was built with medical rooms attached, where clinics and some treatments took place. Today Grover House accommodates a
number of care cases, and acts also as a hospice.
OTHER FEATURES
Besides the facilities described above, the Moya Centre has attached to it a house (Rock Rose), intended for the caretaker or
manager of the Centre. This house has been where the full-time nurse lives, and where several terminal patients have lived their
last days. The whole building has a well-developed garden, with a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.
STAFF
At present the Centre is staffed by two part-time nurses. Two care givers are employed, based at the centre, who visit patients in the
houses. A co-worker gives therapeutic oil baths on five afternoons per week. Some painting and clay modelling therapy has been
given over the past year, but these therapies are restricted due to a lack of therapists and funding. |
